Hey! This is Brady. On paper, I’m an electrical engineering student at Northwestern, but I’d like to think of myself more as an artist who treats engineering disciplines (in all its shapes and sizes) as a means, not an end.
Our institutions love putting boxes around people: “he’s a MechE, he can’t code,” “she’s a ChemE, don’t make her draw schematics.” Intentional or not, this system imposes an identity that deters induviduals from exploring beyond their lables – and that’s where the majority of interesting work actually happens.
Mind you, I’m not condemning specialization; deep expertise is how real things get built and shipped. I do believe, though, in a world where tools of automation are abundant and problems are messy across disciplines, knowing what to build (and why) is a matter of discernment, and there’s an art to that.
Outside of engineering, I enjoy singing with my acapella group, hostel hopping, producing EDM music, and dealing pet ant colonies (ask me about it).
I’m always building something new. Check out my projects here, watch my YouTube, or dive into my resume for more!
