DREAM is a project that grew out of the MIT Media Lab HARD MODE hackathon, where we snatched the 50K grand prize. In the span of 48 hours, we built a lamp that dances, a mirror that previews your OOTD, a radio that talks like Bumblebee, and a mobile platter that passes you beer.

Each object runs its own embedded LLM on an onboard Raspberry Pi, while a central LLM console coordinates communication between the four. Together, they interact with the user through a camera feed on the mirror and audio input from the radio, while also speaking to each other.

Imagine you’re about to head out on a date. The radio overhears that you’re leaving in 15 minutes and alerts the central console, which cues the radio to play romantic music and the lamp to slow dance in a warm, candlelight glow. Drawn in, you step over to the mirror. It recognizes you, pulls your wardrobe contents and the day’s weather from the central console, picks a stylish outfit to match, and shows you an image of yourself wearing it. Then, right as you head out the door, the rover rolls up with a spearmint to freshen your breath.
